Convocation Hall, constructed in the late 1800’s was named for the convocation graduating ceremony. However in its long history, it has also served as a lecture hall, dining hall, chapel, boxing ring, theatre and emergency shelter during the 1950’s Winnipeg flood.
In 2006 the decision was made to update and upgrade Convocation Hall while still maintaining and preserving its historical architecture and ambiance. Doug Edge, Acting Executive Director, Technology Solutions Centre, University of Winnipeg noted that "The challenge we faced right from the onset of the project was to provide state of the art audiovisual systems, as well as lighting control and window covering control capabilities in a manner that would compliment the historic significance and architectural design of the Hall."
Inland AV’s System Design team was able to provide the University of Winnipeg with a functional communication system which enhanced the facility without compromising its historic integrity.
Mr. Edge was impressed with the teamwork and can do attitude displayed by all of the project stakeholders, "Towards the end of the project we were working with some very tight timelines, and clear communications and coordination were key to the successful completion. Inland AV staff worked with our own technical staff, our architects, project managers and trades people to ensure a smooth installation."
As a result Convocation Hall now boasts a myriad of communication tools including projection systems, lighting and audio systems, conference and delegate systems, and videoconference and control systems.
Inland AV is proud to have played an integral part in the rejuvenation of Convention Hall and congratulate the University of Winnipeg and all the other stake holders on a job well done.
