Mobile Telehealth applications and usage is growing rapidly across Canada. This technology includes wireless cameras that connect patients from their bedsides to Medical Specialists who are in their offices miles away. Stroke rehabilitation is one of the applications where Mobile Telehealth has helped improve patient care.
Stroke has been described as Canada’s most “forgotten disease” and is the fourth leading cause of death in Canada. The Northwestern Ontario Regional Stroke Network is now using Librestream’s Onsight Mobile Telehealth solution to reduce the costs and disruption associated with transporting a person with stroke, improve the patient’s quality of life and ensure that patients are seen by Stroke Rehabilitation Therapists at the intervals recommended by the Ontario Stroke System.
Home care workers visit patients in their own homes where they connect wirelessly through an Onsight device to stroke rehabilitation specialists who are using the Onsight Expert software on their desktop computers. These Stroke Specialists visually and verbally assess patients on their recovery progress and recommend the next steps for rehabilitation without the patient ever leaving their home.
